Kappa Search Inc. (KSI) is a Chicago area recruiting agency specializing in the recruitment and placement of engineering, technology, manufacturing and sales professionals in a variety of fields. Currently, we are searching for a Plant Manager which will allow our client to grow and expand their operations in the U.S. while providing an excellent work environment with a stable, growing company that has room for advancement.

Job Title:  Plant Manager

Location: Chicagoland, IL

Compensation: $90,000 – $100,000 / year + Bonuses

This position requires managing ~70-80 full time employees across several shifts and reports directly to the President / CEO of our client.   The ideal candidate will come from a metal industry (non-ferrous) with management experience for ~10 years and display leadership within a Union Environment.

  • Provides leadership and direction for all operations personnel.
  • Builds, develops, and manages operational management team with direction to meet production plan and build upon employee relations.
  • Supports the Company by meeting specific operating targets and providing input to the planning process.
  • Focus is on achieving operational goals and process improvement activities, with interface throughout the organization.
  • Perform any other work assignment as identified by the President.

Requirements:

  • Provide direction and support to Department Managers.
  • Ensure production requirements are met.  Review actual performance to goals, and identify and act on improvement opportunities.
  • Ensure continuity of operations, coordinating activities such as preventive maintenance, employee training and crew communications meetings.
  • Utilize scheduling, communication and labor relations to achieve production requirements.
  • Continuously review and improve operational productivity.
  • Throughput, efficiency, cost control and manpower planning must be identified in all action plans.
  • Delivering quality products to customers when promised is a mission critical objective for any organizations success.  Accordingly, the Plant Manager should have a similar bias through effective planning and execution.
  • Provide daily guidance through experience and professional tact.
  • Develop team behavior capable of carrying out needed operation goals and improving employee relations.
  • Facilitate problem solving within departments and cross functionally.
  • Develop method to identify and resolve operating problems.
  • Instruct and coach Department Managers to resolve issues.
  • Verify all Department Managers remain current in their training of applicable procedures.
  • Document training activities.
  • Administer the budgetary process for these departments.
  • Identify capacity planning issues within departments.
  • Ensure all policies and procedures are adhered to.  Establish operations initiatives for improvement in safety and employee relations.
  • Supervise non-exempt operations personnel at times, specifically when managing manufacturing projects.

Knowledge, Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in metal or related field.
  • 10 years of manufacturing experience, derived from shop floor or manufacturing technical positions.
  • Specific knowledge of manufacturing management, including production, and inventory control, quality systems and cost control.
  • Experience with managing a union environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through others.
  • Organized, ability to manage multiple priorities; problem solving.
  • Excellent communications skills.
  • Strong customer orientation.
  • Computer literate.
