Kappa Search Inc. (KSI) is a Chicago Recruiter specializing in the recruitment and placement of engineering, technology, manufacturing, supply chain and technical professionals in a variety of fields. Currently, we are searching for a Polishing  Engineer for a contract engineering position in Michigan.

SUMMARY:

Responsible for setting up and operating machine controls to product specifications that polish lenses and/or plastics. Candidate should be very familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the polishing field.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ability to use polishing machine and/or manual components to polish lenses and/or plastics of consumer products
  • Expert in compound and materials selections and well as an understanding of touch screens, plastics, glass lenses…etc.
  • Expert Polishing equipment and polishing materials compounds. Qualify and Audit External Suppliers (Polishing/Polishing Equipment Suppliers).
  • Visually inspects lenses and/or plastics.
  • Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Ability to observe, receives, and otherwise obtains information from all relevant sources.
  • Using relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with standards.
  • A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.

Requirements:

  • Requires a bachelors degree in Science, Engineering or the equivalent (Chemical/Quality Engineering background preferred)
  • Graduate degree preferred
  • An apprenticeship and/or formal training are required in area of specialty with 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
  • Extensive travel required (up to 50% domestic & international)
  • Project Manager and Design of experiments (DOE) background required.
  • Lean manufacturing, 5S, Six Sigma, Process Control knowledge required.
  • Experience in polishing a variety of substrates and materials.
  • Knowledge of paint and paint processes preferred.
  • Ability to concentrate in a busy environment and stay on task with minimal direction.
  • Ability to work within a team under general supervision
