Kappa Search Inc. is a technical staffing firm that specializes in engineering, manufacturing and technical recruitment and placement. One of our clients, an international Wind Energy manufacturer, is looking for a Project Developer.Position:  Project Developer
Location: Chicago, IL
Compensation: $60,000 – $68,000 + 5% bonus

Summary of Role

The incumbent will be responsible for all aspects of a pipe-line of projects from site selection to successful completion of financing due diligence. Daily responsibilities include identifying project sites, leasing property and/or acquiring right-of-way and other easements, coordinating the work of local co-development partners, managing permitting issues and interconnection procedures, and completing environmental and permitting inquiries and all other aspects of project development work. This position will coordinate with other staff regarding grid connection studies, wind analysis, construction and operations, legal questions, and other matters. Position requires frequent North American travel.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies suitable prospective utility scale wind projects
  • Performs studies and/or manages the work of consultants or in-house specialists to identify issues on various aspects of the projects: wind resource, grid connection, site accessibility, environmental sensitivity, local acceptance, permitting issues, feasibility of power sale, land control, economical viability, etc. in order to focus on the most promising projects
  • Optimizes the projects’ micrositing, planning and budget
  • Coordinates the work of local co-development partners
  • Establishes and manages relationships with elected officials, regulators, and community leaders to support project development
  • Manages the environmental study and permitting process
  • Participates in interconnection studies and agreements

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, or a related field
  • Extensive experience in a similar/close position and evidence of a proven track record
  • Result oriented approach with ability to take responsibilities, overcome obstacles and achieve objectives, financial targets and deadlines
  • Organized and able to manage multiple projects at the same time, as well as the work of several partners and subcontractors
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% of time when necessary
  • Familiar with standard wind project development software: WindPro, ArcGIS, Ventyx, etc.
