One of our top clients in the CNC machine tool industry seeks an Applications Engineer for the following opportunity.

Title: Application Engineer

Location: Chicago, IL
Compensation: $55,000 – $60,000

This position is responsible for the design, installation, testing and servicing of cutting tool products in field installations.

Primary Job Functions

Identifies Service Requirements

  • consulting with manufacturer, customer or Supervisor/Manager to plan testing requirements, installation or layout
  • studying blueprints and other specifications to determine installation and application procedures for specific cutting tools
  • interpreting schematics.

Performs Installation

  • installing or overseeing the installation of tooling according to manufacturer’s specifications
  • instructing customers on operation of tooling; by testing and monitoring products to ensure customer satisfaction
  • using standard test instruments and hand tools.

Creates Documentation

  • creating reports, including monthly reports, technical reports, travel reports, customer contact sheets, and maintenance logs
  • advising Management regarding customer satisfaction, product performance, and suggestions for product improvements
  • creating any other documentation as needed or requested by Management to justify the cost of completed tool testing.

Coordinates Future Servicing

  • consulting with Engineering personnel to resolve unusual problems in system operation and maintenance
  • advising Staff in product maintenance to obtain optimum operating performance.

Experience / Minimum Qualifications Needed

Language Skills

  •  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, and/or government regulations in English.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals in English
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of Managers, Staff, customers, and the general public in English.

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Other Skills

  •  Must have the ability to review, assess and understand technical documents, drawings and other documents and engage in discussions internally and with customers, and/or carry out repairs and/or modifications.
  • Must be able to use a computer and applications such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point.



  • Associate’s degree from a two-year college, vocational, or technical school and three to five years of related experience and/or training.
