Kappa Search Inc. is a Chicago recruitment agency that specializes in engineering, manufacturing, operations and supply chain recruitment and placement. One of our clients, an automotive parts manufacturer, is currently recruiting for an Operations Manager with experience in a CNC machining environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provide leadership in management of both day-to-day operations and the strategic direction of the organization

2. Participate in long-term planning activities such as budget planning, project work (including capital projects) and staff utilization

3. Facilitate/lead continuous improvement efforts within the business using lean Principles and Practices

4. Lead career development, safety, budgetary management/cost control within the business

5. Lead efforts to empower team members/team leaders in business unit to interface and resolve issues with internal and external customers/suppliers and follow-up on problem solving efforts

6. Establish and maintain an effective communication system within the business

7. Ability to train employees one-on-one and/or teams (as needed) in gauging, reading Quality Reports and other critical tasks that support quality of product and development of operators.

8. Hands on machining problem solving and trouble shooting.

Experience:

1. A Bachlelors  degree in related field such as engineering, manufacturing, business etc. is required

2. Seven (7) years of leadership and/or manager experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment preferred

3. Understanding of technical materials and components of the business area (i.e., tooling, engineering, basic engine knowledge, computer systems, machining, metal cutting)

4. Demonstrated understanding of and capability to manage quality systems (TQS, ISO, material flow, etc.) to maximize utilization of resources and achieve required cost, quality, inventory, CPE, and safety/housekeeping goals would be a plus

5. Product and mechanical knowledge of engine components (blocks and heads) preferred

6. Six Sigma Certified or have completed Green Belt Projects preferred

7. Familiarity/Experience with A3 Problem Solving, Toyota Production System (TPS), 5 Whys, Fishbone, etc.), Kaizen, Kanban and pull systems implementation preferred

8. Transfer line and CNC metal cutting experience preferred

SKILLS:

1. Experience and knowledge of Quality Systems (TS16949, QS9000. ISO, TQS, Process Documentation, Gage Calibration and relationships)

2. Must be quality conscious and lead the Machining safety/housekeeping 5S initiatives.

3. Must be improvement oriented with demonstrated track record of having employed strategic processes and systems to implement positive change

4. Show initiative and creativity in accomplishing goals for the business

5. Demonstrated ability to effectively plan and organize work
