Renewable energy job growth in Arizona

Arizona is one of the leading states in the U.S. for renewable energy jobs. Businesses in the state were able to commit to plans earlier in 2014 that stated the companies would be hiring over 3,000 employees, all in clean energy industries, according to Cronkite News.

A report released by Environmental Entrepreneurs tracked the announcements made by companies and other groups regarding clean energy projects jobs in the second quarter of 2014. The report found that Arizona came out on top, out of a total of 10 states, with five projects that will entail an estimated 3,060 jobs in the state. Also joining Arizona near the top of the list were California, Michigan and Utah.

"It's tough to compete with California because there's just less of us," said Susan Bitter Smith, a commissioner with Arizona Corporation Commission, according to Cronkite News. "But Arizona is always in the top three because it's a place of great opportunity for renewable energy."

The report also noted that solar power generation announced the most job openings in comparison with other clean energy fields.

Renewable energy recruiters have the opportunity to take advantage of the plans companies have made in Arizona and a number of other prominent U.S. states.
