Austrian manufacturer opening new plant in Pennsylvania

Austrian packaging company Greiner Packaging Corporation will be opening a new manufacturing plant in Pittston Township, Pa. Greiner Packaging recently came to an agreement with CenterPoint Commerce and Trade Park West to build it's U.S. headquarters in a 223,387-square-foot business park, according to The Scranton Times-Tribune.

Along with setting up shop in the Pittston Township, Greiner hopes to add new full-time employees over the course of the next three years. Gov. Tom Corbett said in a statement the arrival of Greiner will help boost the local economy.

"Our economy grows stronger every day and companies throughout the world are coming here to make it in Pennsylvania," Corbett said. "Our partnership with Greiner Packaging will result in the addition of the 128 new jobs and continued economic progress in Luzerne County."

The Austrian-based company will be manufacturing package cups and lids and other items for the food industry. Greiner said it would be investing $17 million for computers, manufacturing equipment, furniture and fixtures for the new site. Willi Eibner, Greiner Packaging International CEO, said in a statement the new plant will be very welcoming to citizens looking for work.

"We offer future employees of Greiner Packaging International excellent work conditions, long-term future prospects and established in-house training, which contributes to personal growth," Eibner said.

Joseph Burke, president of the Greater Pittston Chamber of Commerce, told Citizens Voice Pittston Township is a developed urban area.

"The combination of our region's strategic location, our gifted work force and the extraordinary facilities at CenterPoint West have once again put Greater Pittston and Northeastern Pennsylvania at the competitive forefront," Burke said.

Businesses in the manufacturing industry that are looking to expand their companies and need help finding skilled workers can enlist the services of supply chain recruiters or operations recruiters to help them in their search.
