GE plans to build new facility in Cincinnati, Ohio

JobsOhio, a nonprofit promoting economic development in Ohio, announced General Electric plans to locate its new U.S. Global Operations Center in the greater Cincinnati, Ohio, region. GE produces aircraft engines, household appliances and high tech power generation equipment. The company is based in Fairfield, Conn., has more than 300,000 employees worldwide and sales over $147 billion, according to

GE currently has more than 15,000 employees in Ohio. This is more than in any other state in the U.S. reported.

Construction of the new facility will begin in the summer, and the company plans to have the site open by 2017, according to JobsOhio. While the location for the building has not been decided, GE is hoping to create an office up to 400,000 square feet, reported. Areas in the running for the facility are Mason, Oakley and The Banks development in Cincinnati.

Construction of the facility will create approximately 1,400 new jobs in Cincinnati region.

GE is attempting to simplify its operations by building shared service sites. Now departments such as finance and IT will be in one place for more efficient management. The center in Ohio will be one of GEs five shared service centers in the world.

"We're excited to expand GE's presence in Ohio," Senior Vice President of GE Global Operations, Shane Fitzsimons stated. "Ohio and GE have been working together for many years and Ohio is home to over 15,000 GE employees today. The Greater Cincinnati area provides a pool of talent that will help us build a world-class Share Services Center."
